Braided Cards - Burst

Hello crafty people!
This staying at home has allowed me to catch up with a lot of ideas I had.
In this post, I give you my newest design for a braided card that I called Burst.
I created a star shaped version and a square version. Both cards feature 8 braided elements and a contrasting back panel.

The braiding is a little more time consuming than that of the last braided card I posted (vertex) but the result is a very intricate looking effect.
Some tips to consider when selecting your cardstock:

  • I wouldn't recommend going higher than 65 lb cardstock. Heavier cardstock is hard to bend and tends to crack and crease giving a flat and less 3D effect.
  • Try using a more synthetic fiber paper, it really tends to curve better than natural fibers. Usually foiles or paper that has a shimmer finish work better.
  • If you are going to use a shimmer paper, make sure to use a non water based glue. UHU or any other resin based adhesive works best. You could also use double sided tape or a tape runner, but it is really difficult to get to small spaces.
  • You can cut both cards from a single letter sized sheet of paper.

You can embellish the card using buttons, hot fixed rhinestones or like I did nos adhesive rhinestones. Then again, use a resin based glue to make sure they stay in place, because with water based glue they will detach.
Uchida Jewel picker is the best tool to pick and place small elements onto cards.

You could use a similar color cardstock for the back panel, I just find it better to use a darker or contrasting color that helps define the braided elements better visually. Once you open the card, you could write on both sides, just make sure if you are going to write on the contrasting back panel, to do it before glueing it down to avoid flattening the braided elements.
If you will be mailing the card, make sure to use a padded envelope to avoid the 3D effect from being flattened.

That's it guys, make sure to watch the video tutorial and subscribe if you haven't done so.
Thanks for stopping by.
Enjoy and be safe!
