Two Tier Manger Pop Up Christmas Card

Hello Everyone!
I really hope you are having a great day.
These past two years have gone by so fast I can't believe is almost Christmas.
I really wanted to create a Christmas card that reflected the changes that we have gone through these past years and the hope for a future that's better for all.
marrying the purpose and my love for pop up cards because of the surprise they carry within, I decided to design a two tier pop up with a V fold raise to complete my Nativity/Bethlehem scene.
As the blog post title suggests, the card is a stacked double cylinder pop up mechanism with a V fold made out of acetate to elevate two angels holding a star over the manger.
It is a very straight forward design that looks complicated but it is actually really easy to put together.

The supplies I used are linked below with affiliate links at no extra cost to you.
The card consists of:
  • Outer Card Base (gold cardstock)
  • Inner Card Base (blue cardstock)
  • Lower tier element(white cardstock, cityscape, wise men, camel)
  • Upper tier element (white cardstock, manger, sheep, donkey)
  • V fold raise element (acetate, angels)

I used my Cricut Maker with a single scoring wheel to score all the parts. In case you are using a scoring stylus, you might want to consider re-scoring all the lines with a blunt tool by hand to make sure you have consistent folding lines.
I will include a no scoring line version with cut dashes instead. that can be used in silhouette machines or other plotters with no scoring option.
The outer card base is 80lb Cardstock in gold color. I would not recommend to use any thicker than 80lb because the spine folds are very close together and could be difficult to achieve.
The inner card base was cut from Neenah Metallic Royal blue 65lb cardstock and embossed using a Next Level Embossing Folder from We R Memory Keepers. These embossing folders create beautiful 3D embossing effect that combined with the metallic finish of the cardstock, brings joy to my heart.
All the tiers elements were cut from a single letter size sheet of Neenah Metallic in White Gold that also has a beautiful subtle shimmer.
Finally, the V fold rise mechanism was created using Cricut´s acetate sheets. It allows engraving with an engraving tip and you can also fold is following the cut dashes. You can also use cardstock if you want, but I love the "suspended in the air" effect that transparent acetate gives and the illusion of rays coming out of the star of the engraving.
The mechanism works flawlessly so, make sure you follow the video tutorial for tips and tricks.
The front of the card was embellished using a Stained glass technique that I will explain in a future post along with the file.

I hope you give it a try and have as much fun as I did.
Hugs.
Omar
