Always Look Up, Mermaid Card - Heat Embossing Sentiments with the Cricut Maker

I really wanted to test all the features of my brand new Cricut Maker, So I created this card to Print then Cut, Write and Cut.
I also wanted an embossed sentiment, so take a peek inside to learn how to heat emboss sentiments with the help of your Cricut.
I've had this idea of making a mermaid card for a while. I have several sketches that I want to digitize this year, it all depends on your feedback now, so please take the time to comment and tell me if you like this idea. And why not tell me any other ideas you might want to see from me this 2018.

Now, back to the card. This card has 4 layers that represent an underwater cave with the mermaid looking from the bottom.

The card base is cut in the center and matches the bottom layer, so the mermaid stays inside the card and it is fully revealed when the card is opened. On the inside of the card, I used the "you are MERMAZING" sentiment from the My Favorite Things Stamp Set Mermazing that gives this card an inspiring meaning.
The sentiment in the front of the card was written with a Ranger Embossing Pen on the Cricut Pen Adapter (it fits perfectly with no additional gimmicks) and then heat embossed with White embossing Powder.

All the images were colored using Copic Markers and color pencils and highlighted using a Signo Uniball White Gel Pen and a Sakura Gelly Roll White Gel Pen, that has a finer tip. Of course I added tons of glitter with a Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush.

You can cut the pieces and assemble the card with the colors as is, but if you want something extra, you can add watercolor details to the cardstock to resemble underwater plants.
If you are interested in getting the Print then cut images used on this card as SVG files, subscribe to the newsletter where you can find a link for a direct download.

As a suggestion, I included an image of the finished card in the ZIP file that you can use for reference.
Have fun and happy crafting!

  1. Hadn't thought to use my embossing pen in the cricut! Duh! Thanks!

  2. I also use the Sakura glue pen to write and draw - then sprinkle glitter on it - it works shockingly well. :)

  3. Great idea Jennifer. It would also help the sentiment be thinner and allow for a lot more detail!
    I’ll try it out.
    Thanks for the inspiration.
