Glittery XO, Valentines, Self Closing Box

On my list of resolutions for 2017, I made a commitment of using the supplies I already have. Searching my cardstock stash for inspiration, I came across this glittery cardstock that I used last year also for Valentine's projects and I came up with this fun box.
My inspiration for this Valentine's Box, is Rustic meets Shiny.
I wanted to stick to the pink-fuchsia main color, but add a little black in a kawaii kind of way. Also keep the project organic looking, despite the fact that glitter was used throughout the box.

The Box Base was cut from a 12"x12" piece of American Crafts Smooth Kraft Cardstock. I needed to use a 12" long sheet of paper to allow the folding to be done easily. I tried with a 8.5"x11" piece of paper and it was a little difficult to fold. After cutting, I used Versamark Ink and 2 different heart images from the Lawn Fawn Woodgrain Backdrop Stamp set to create a pattern. I avoided stamping behind the panels that I added later.
Even though the Cricut Explore does a good job scoring, I like to re-score the creases on my scoring board, just to make it easier to fold.
The assembly is very easy and it is probably a good idea to glue your panels before putting the box together (which I realized too late and did it the hard way, lol!)
Anyways, For the pink panels, I embossed them using the Cuttlebug Kitchen Weave Embossing Folder and then inked the edges using a Mini Ink Blending Tool and Picked Raspberry Distress Ink.
I realized inking after embossing brings up the texture even more.
I adhered the panels to the base using a liquid glue to strengthen the structure and because I was afraid double sided tape could not hold them when bending the sides.
The XO cutouts consist of a fuchsia cardstock on top of a silver glitter offset path. The glitter cardstock is from Die Cuts with a View Glitzy Glitter 6x6 paper stack and what I love about it is that it cuts very clean and the glitter doesn't come off at all!. Make sure to use a strong glue like Ranger's Multi Medium Matte to ensure a strong hold on this rough surface.
The Flower on top is just black cardstock . I hand embossed the center of each scalloped groove to give it some dimension and adhered the center to the glitter offset cutout using also Multi Medium. I placed an Enamel Dot in the center to bring some of the main color to the embellishment.
The hand embossing looks kind of rough in the picture, but in real life you almost can't notice it.
I popped the XOs and the flowers with Foam Tape.
Cover the entire back to avoid bending.
Now, for the box assembly. Place double sided tape on the flaps back, remove the backing and fold it inward. You should be left with a slot to slide the flap later on.
Glue the box side flap using liquid glue and let it dry for a couple of minutes. This flap will be folded later, so it has to be glued on very well.
Finally, add some strong double sided tape tape to the bottom flaps and close the box.
The bottom flaps interlock and can stay closed on their own,
but it is better to add some tape to keep them together just in case.
The top of the box can stay closed without the need of glue or tape, just slide the flaps in the slots and that's it!.

I added a sticker that I stamped on Sticker Project Paper using Versafine Onyx Black Ink and an image of the Hero Arts Happy Mail Card MAking Kit Stamp Set and punched it using a 1.25" Circle Punch (it fits perfectly)

I liked the Sticker idea so much, I stamped several using various techniques, just to have them handy.
The finished box measures 4.5" x 2.5" x 3" (H x W x D). Give this project a try and fill it with your favorite Valentine's Treats.
Enjoy!
