Summer Fairy Box Card - OAK Tree Stamps Spring 2016 Release

Hello everyone! It's been a while since my my last post.
Today I bring you this colorful box card with lots of embellishments.
This was a project for the recent OAK Tree Stamps release.
Come take a look and download your free SVG file.

The result is a pretty big box card that needs a custom envelope.

I love the We R Memory Keepers 1-2-3 punch board for making my envelopes and envelope liners, you always get perfect results. There's also an iPhone Envelope Generator app for the board that tells you exactly the size of your paper and scoring measures.

Images and sentiment on this card are part of the Fairy Wishes Stamp Set from OAK Tree Stamps. The fairies are just too cute.
I have to say there's a lot of inking on the card. Every die cut piece was inked using a darker shade than the cardstock of Distress Ink on a Mini Ink Blending Tool. The whole card was assembled using Aleene´s Tacky Glue Pen, my favorite liquid glue.
Base inked using Mustard Seed Distress Ink

Opened flaps
The mushroom house in the back was also colored using distress inks. I inked the edges and added some more shading with a water brush using Walnut Stain Distress Ink. I applied some drops of water to give the mushroom house a more organic feeling.
For the painted white dots on the roof, I used a #0 brush and a very light wash of Copic Opaque White Pigment, a water soluble, very high quality bright white ink for highlighting your images. I decided the card needed more dimension, so I used different sizes of Enamel Sprinkles in the color Lily White.
When I designed the house, I created all sorts of dashed lines on the door to make it look like wood. Little did I know, after inking, the dashes become darker, which is a great addition to the feeling of wood. The rocks around the door should have been more of a greyish color, and Pumice Stone is the perfect Distress Ink for that.
Wood looking dashes
I put a small enamel dot for the door knob in the color Ladybug.
On the butterflies and the flowers on the panels and the flaps, I added some highlights and dots with a white gel pen and shimmer with a Wink of Stella Glitter brush. I also put a small enamel dot in the center of the flowers in the color Bumblebee.

Shimmery butterfly.

After inking, the two layer flower was put together using an eyelet.

The flying butterfly, dragonfly and layered flower were attached using acetate holders, this gives the illusion of those elements floating around the fairy. These holders also come on he SVG. Make sure when you attach the butterflies and dragonflies to use a small dab of glue just in the center of the bodies, so the wings can be bent upwards for a 3D effect.

Please note that I changed the design of the flower flaps on the downloadable SVG. I did this after realizing they were a bit flimsy with all the weight of the top layers and the embellishments.
There's plenty of room for messages under the flaps and when folded flat you still get a pretty flower underneath.

There's also room for a message in the back of the box card.

I stamped the fairy with Memento Ink on Copic Express Blending card, my favorite cardstock for coloring. I used very bright COPIC marker colors. I stayed on the lower colors of each family, mostly tens and twenties. After adding some details with color pencils I then added highlights using a white gel pen. I also added some glitter to the wings with a Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Pen
I am working on coloring tutorials for OAK also, so, stay tuned.

The sentiment on the cloud was stamped using Versafine Onyx Black Ink and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. I love how crisp the Versafine pigment ink is, and since it is a slow drying ink, you don´t need embossing ink to make the powder stick to the stamped image.

I added a Copic colored Wand which I fussy cut and added Wink of Stella Clear Glitter, and finished the cloud with some sparkles and highlights drawn with a white gel pen.

For assembling box card, please refer to this video, the quality is not that good, but I'm not much of a video guy and the idea is pretty much the same.

I hope you like this card and this new stamp set.
Enjoy!
